The Central Digital Repository is comprised of digital objects produced by the Electronic Centers, Information Communities, the Digital Library Production Service, and commercial vendors. These objects are expressed as METS encoded text documents and can contain information marked up in elements from external standards as necessary. In this system we assume that there are two distinct categories of information regarding the objects that can be indexed and used for descriptive and administrative (including technical) purposes.
